Federal rules require Medicare patients to have

  • An in-person visit within 6 months before starting video mental health services
  • An in-person visit at least every 12 months to continue video services

What This Means

  • Your first visit may need to be in person, or
  • If you have seen us in person within the past 6 months, you can begin with video visits

Exceptions

  • If an in-person visit would create a hardship (such as transportation issues, disability, or long distance), your provider may document an exception.
  • Please discuss this during scheduling.

Non-Medicare Patients

  • These requirements do not apply to you.
  • You may start and continue with video visits as long as it is clinically appropriate.
