Addiction is a treatable medical condition, and recovery is a realistic goal with the right support. At SOS Wellness, psychiatry, therapy and addiction treatment come from one team, so you get medical care, therapeutic support and family involvement in one place, whether you are struggling with alcohol, opioids or other substances.

We see patients in person at our Middletown and Norwood offices and by telehealth across Ohio. Ohio Medicaid, Medicare and many commercial plans are accepted.

How we treat addiction

Three things set our addiction care apart, and all of them happen under one roof.

Medication-assisted treatment (MAT), prescribed in-house

FDA-approved medications for opioid and alcohol use disorders, including buprenorphine (Suboxone), naltrexone (oral or monthly Vivitrol), acamprosate and disulfiram, prescribed and monitored by our own clinical team alongside counseling. You do not need a separate prescriber.

Intensive outpatient program, in person or virtual

9–12 hours a week of group therapy, individual therapy and medication management for adults who need more structure than weekly appointments but not residential care. Attend in person at our Middletown clinic (ASAM Level 2.1, intensive outpatient), or join our Virtual IOP by secure telehealth from anywhere in Ohio, with groups on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday and evening hours available.

Integrated dual-diagnosis care

Depression, anxiety, PTSD, bipolar disorder, ADHD and OCD are treated together with substance use by the same team, because these conditions affect each other.

Many online-only psychiatry services do not treat primary substance use disorders. We do, with psychiatry, therapy and MAT coordinated by one team.

Understanding addiction as a medical condition

We recognize addiction as a chronic medical condition that affects brain chemistry and behavior. There is no shame in needing help. Our treatment combines medical supervision, evidence-based therapy and long-term support to address both the biological and psychological sides of recovery.

Therapies we use

Our clinicians use approaches supported by research and clinical evidence, matched to your needs.

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)identifying and changing thought patterns that contribute to substance use
  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)building skills for emotional regulation, distress tolerance and healthier coping
  • Trauma-informed careaddressing underlying trauma that may contribute to addiction
  • Relapse preventiondeveloping strategies to maintain recovery long term, woven through every stage of care

Medication-assisted treatment (MAT)

For opioid or alcohol use disorders, we combine FDA-approved medications with counseling and ongoing monitoring.

  • Buprenorphine (Suboxone) for opioid use disorder
  • Naltrexone (oral, or a monthly Vivitrol injection) for alcohol and opioid use disorders
  • Acamprosate (Campral) and disulfiram (Antabuse) for alcohol use disorder

MAT includes a medical evaluation, dosage monitoring, side effect management and coordination with your counseling. All medication-assisted treatment follows safety protocols and a treatment agreement that supports your safety and care.

Dual-diagnosis treatment

We treat co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders together, with one team and one plan.

  • Depression and substance use
  • Anxiety disorders and addiction
  • PTSD and trauma-related substance use
  • Bipolar disorder with co-occurring addiction
  • ADHD or OCD and substance use

Intensive outpatient program (IOP)

For adults who need more structure than weekly appointments but do not require residential treatment, our IOP provides:

  • 9–12 hours per week of group and individual therapy
  • Medication management and psychiatric oversight
  • Evidence-based skill-building and relapse prevention
  • Family involvement when clinically appropriate
  • In-person sessions at our Middletown clinic, or Virtual IOP across Ohio with evening groups on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday

Court-ordered or in a diversion program? We provide attendance documentation and completion certificates, and our intake team will confirm whether we meet your specific requirement.

Family services

Addiction affects the whole family, and healing happens together.

  • Family education about addiction and recovery
  • Communication and boundary-setting skills
  • Family therapy when clinically appropriate
  • Guidance for parents, partners and adult children

Care coordination and support

Our case management team coordinates your care, connects you with community resources such as housing, transportation and benefits, helps with insurance questions and advocates for you throughout recovery.

Your care team

Your care is directed by our Medical Director, a psychiatrist, and provided by one consistent team that includes psychiatric mental health nurse practitioners, licensed social workers and case management staff. They conduct thorough assessments and build collaborative plans that respect your autonomy.
